20year

Our community has more than twenty years of history in Dallas. What began as five or six families coming together to study the Bible and pray together, quickly became a community that regularly gathered at nearby churches for Masses and meetings. As the numbers grew, they requested that the Diocese of Dallas help establish a permanent Chinese Catholic community in 1990. In 1992, we put our money together and purchased a small office building in Richardson, Texas. By the end of 1993, we had renovated it to become our sanctuary and activity hall. With the guidance of priests seconded from Taiwan and the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit, our small community grew stronger in numbers and in faith.

Sacred Heart Experience

Tom Corey

My name is Tom Corey. When I first visited Sacred Heart Church at our old location in Richardson, it was amazing that this building had a little kitchen considering the size of the parish. I noticed that one of the parishioners was preparing two rice cookers for preparation of lunch. At that time I was just an observer. Since I had nothing to do during Chinese mass, I decided to help in pre¬paring the rice cookers. I decided to take stewardship to prepare the cookers every weekend. So when Chinese mass was completed, I helped out in serving the food with other members in the parish. When lunch was completed, I helped out in cleaning the kitchen. So now this became a routine with me.

When our new Church in Plano was completed, the previous staff decided to elect me to be in charge of the kitchen and to have all supplies ready, such as forks, napkins, plates, etc….

At beginning it was a little difficult for me to have this as-signment. I had to have everything ready, such as keeping the kitchen clean, having the food ready, making the Chinese tea, etc.... Then at the end of lunch, I have to have the plates, forks, pots and pans cleaned.

Now I enjoy in helping out serving the food and drinks to our parishioners.

I thank God for the people in assisting me in the kitchen for pick¬ing up the food and for helping me in cleaning the kitchen.

Oh, I also have a smock in my name so that my clothes are clean.
